God answered my little prayer, and it was so obviously him! I haven’t been the best at sharing my day-to-day struggles with God. I think, perhaps, it’s because we were taught coping skills for life’s small challenges that involve relying solely on ourselves and our abilities. Also, my mind is often everywhere but on God. So, I go through my day, tackling all the things (not always well), and then at night, when I’m ready to sleep, I remember I should talk with him and give him a short, exhausted, half-hearted prayer. It’s not ideal and not good for our relationship, but it’s the truth.
So, I’ve been trying to turn to him more. Even with the small stuff. Last week, my 9-year-old and I couldn’t find the shirt that she needed to wear the next day for field day at school. The evening was busy. She had tumbling at 5, and then I was headed to book club at 7. I wanted to find this shirt before I left to ease the workload for my husband. We looked everywhere and could not find it. We were even discussing the clothing options for the next day because we were losing hope. As we got in the car to go to tumbling, I asked God to show me where the shirt was. Before I was even off our street, I got the thought to look in her sports bag in the garage. When we got home, I opened that bag and voila! There it was!
I knew this was God’s work. And it reinforced that I need to give it all to him, big and small. I won’t always have the immediate success that I had this time, but he will take the prayer and guide me through it.
